Astana, Kazakhstan | October 15-17, 2026
Palau was represented at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup Astana 2026 in Kazakhstan by swimmer Shawn Dingilius Wallace.
Making his fifth World Cup appearance, Shawn competed in the 100m Freestyle on October 15, the 50m Freestyle on October 16, and the 50m Butterfly on the final day of competition.
Although this was his first meet of the season, Shawn came close to several personal best times. His strongest performance was in the 50m Butterfly, where he swam 29.36 seconds, one of his best performances in the event.
Looking back on his first World Cup in 2022, Shawn said he has gained valuable experience in handling travel, jet lag, and competing at a high international level. He believes the experience has helped him become more disciplined and focused on his goals.
One of his favorite moments from this year’s World Cup was watching Cameron McEvoy and Egor Kornev race head-to-head in the freestyle events.
Shawn said it is always an honor to represent Palau on the international stage.
“It means a lot to represent Palau. I feel grateful and proud every time I see Palau’s flag at an international competition.”
He hopes young swimmers in Palau will take every opportunity to compete internationally, gain experience, and prepare themselves for future events such as the World Championships, Pacific Games, and regional competitions.
Following the World Cup, Shawn’s focus is on improving his personal best times and preparing for the Pacific Games next summer.
He would like to thank his mother and coaches, John Berry and Carl Thomas, for their support.
Shawn also shared a message for Palau:
“Thank you all for the support, and I will be training hard for the Pacific Games.”
The Palau Aquatics Federation congratulates Shawn on another successful World Cup appearance and wishes him continued success in the upcoming season.
